Today, I'm back in London at Hardware Pioneer Max, scouting for new technology trends.

It wasn't long ago that the trend was CONNECT EVERYTHING with IoT so your toaster could talk to your shoes which could talk to your lawnmower.

Today, the trend was DISCONNECT EVERYTHING with Edge AI being used so products like your toaster can ingest data and make decisions all by themselves. 

Da Vinci once said "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication" and so it is with Edge AI. Rather than sprawling datacentres with endless computing power it requires tiny little models on tiny little chips. And that requires product developers to be super strict on what outputs they want the model to give and therefore what data to train it on.

It is reassuring to see this new race for EFFICIENT intelligence. AGI may require an entire Fusion Reactor to do what a human brain can do on a Sainsbury's meal deal. To get Edge AI running on smart rings and implantable medical devices, it will need to take the tiniest of sips from a battery.

Applications are endless. It could be a device that listens for specific verbal commands from a user, it could be a camera that looks for a hand gesture or it could be used in robotic grippers to detect an object's material. Collect your datasets of different scenarios, train your model and then make it as efficient and accurate as possible. Simple!
